Acute myocardial infarction, commonly known as a heart attack, is a serious medical emergency where blood flow to the heart muscle is suddenly blocked, leading to damage or death of heart tissue. This is usually due to a blockage in the coronary arteries, often caused by atherosclerotic plaques or blood clots.
